MonkeyGallery is an independently owned and operated site, built by David Colquhoun working from a small tropical paradise in the pacific ocean (New Zealand).

You're Photos & Movies are safe with MonkeyGallery. So safe that many users only store their files with MonkeyGallery, and delete them off their own computer.

MonkeyGallery currently stores 38,916 Photos and 375 Movies and unlike other gallery sites, we keep the original files you upload.

We store your Photos & Movies on two separate hard drives on dedicated servers housed in a bunker in Texas. We back-up everything daily to two more drives at a secure offsite location. Our servers have been running for over 2 years with zero data loss.

“MonkeyGallery started as a place for my brother and his wife to put their wedding photos. Then I made a version for my friend Shelda to upload her holiday photos.

As a web developer, I had always made resized my photos in Photoshop, and hand made html pages for them. I realised that it was quicker and easier for me to use MonkeyGallery for my own photos.

Friends were tired of the limitations of other photo sites, especially the ones where visitors have to register and sign in to view photos! So I gave them each a MonkeyGallery. After a few months their friends, and friends friends also wanted their own ones.

I've tried running MonkeyGallery on a subscription model for a while now, and its just not working. People don't want to pay for a nice simple, easy to use gallery when they can have a complicated free one that keeps trying to sell them junk.

Now we're going to try giving MonkeyGalleries away, increase the number of users and find out if a large number of users will magically turn into value.
I don't expect to make a profit from this. That would require hundreds of thousands of users, or someone silly like Google or Yahoo to give me a suitcase full of cash.
